Whether you’re looking for Birthstone Jewelry, Inspirational Necklaces, Charms, Name & Initials, Designs Jewelry, and so much more – you need to check out this awesome Etsy shop larkandjuniper! Let’s meet Lisa!
1) How did you start creating?
I have been creating since I was a small child. My dad was an arts and crafts salesman, and he always brought me home things to experiment with. My mother owned a craft based business my entire childhood (she made the original bagel refrigerator magnet with the eyes and hats) and I was always around her working to create new items and manage her staff. I started creating what is in my shop recently after a friend sent me a set of metal stamps that she couldn’t figure out how to use well. I tried it, and got hooked.
2) What is your favorite thing about creating?
I must make something every day to feel whole. I can’t sit still, and every day I make something, even if it isn’t something that I sell. Its my time to decompress and let everything out of my head. I feel incomplete if I don’t do it.
3) Where do you find your inspiration?
Mostly from nature, but really I am constantly inspired by the things that I see. I love to look at beautiful colors and textures, and come up with ways to incorporate them into my home and work.
4) Tell us about what you sell.
My line is hand stamped and hand engraved metal jewelry. I love the soft organic shape of the pendants that I make, and its always good to get my aggression out with a hammer on a daily basis. The designs I use are mostly nature inspired, although I have added many designs to accommodate the special requests of my customers. I work in pewter mostly, I just love the deep gray shine that it has, and I love to rub the little pebble shapes between my fingers when I’m thinking.
5) How did your shop get it’s name?
I am Lisa, and my husband is Jim. My parents had a very successful company using their initials my whole life, so I thought it was good juju to do the same. So we started with L & J, I love nature, especially birds, I picked words that fit my theme and worked together, and we became lark & juniper.
6) Do you have any advice for other sellers?
Stick with it. Especially in the beginning. I wish I made a sale every day (and perhaps one day I will!) but until then I appreciate that I am having some success doing what I love to do, and that’s making something that someone truly enjoys.
7) How do you balance your Etsy shop, your children, and your everyday schedule?
My 3 year old is my shop helper. He loves to help me pick out the designs and set up to work. Most often, I wait for them to go to sleep to do the actual jewelry making, but during the day I am able to think about what else I would like to make, and do my computer work and research, and then at night I do my creating. Since creating has always been part of my daily routine, the only adjustment that I really needed to make was making sure that I finish things in a timely fashion now.
