Nurture your child’s inner genius with hands-on science and craft party activities! Not only will kids be having fun, they will be learning! Plus, they will be creating their own favors, making Smarty Party kits a money saving choice for all your gatherings! Let’s meet Ann from Smarty Party!
1) How did you start creating?
When I was younger I was always encouraged to use my imagination. I guess it stuck with me into adulthood, even though I chose science as my field.
2) What is your favorite thing about creating?
It’s fun! It’s always play time when you’re creating something. And, besides that, you can’t ever be wrong when you’re in your creative mode.
3) Where do you find your inspiration?
Lots of places, but nature is huge for me. There is nothing more beautiful and full of fun than a walk in the woods or a trip to the beach!
4) Tell us about what you sell.
I sell kits and activities to get kids creating, thinking about nature, and learning science. Playing and learning are too often considered separate when they are actually intertwined in so many ways. Too many kids don’t have a creative outlet or they think science and fun can’t go together. I want to show them how much fun science is and how much like art it can be. I also try to offer lots of options that can be used for party activities and favors, making parties easier to plan and more affordable for the givers.
5) How did your shop get it’s name?
I provide supplies for parties and, locally, I do demos for parties and other groups. With science being such a huge focus of my business, Smarty Party seemed like the perfect name.
6) Do you have any advice for other sellers?
Don’t give up. This is not the first time I’ve tried selling my crafts. It is, however, the first time the things I’ve made seem to really connect with people. You may not always hit a home run, but you can’t stop swinging!
7) How do you balance your Etsy shop, your children, and your everyday schedule?
I work on my business while my oldest is in school. My youngest’s nap time becomes my time for taking pictures and working on new projects. I try to avoid working too much in the evenings. I try to keep that as family time as much as possible.
