I don’t know about you, but I love buying handmade soaps and lip balms. They always work so great! If you’re the same way, check out Milly’s shop, SecondSpringSoaps! Offering Handmade Soap, Lip Balm, Bath Bombs, and Wax Tarts!
1) How did you start creating?
I’ve always been a creative person, but I started looking into handmade soap when I was pregnant with my son. I grew concerned about the amount of chemicals found in store-bought products, and I was worried about the effects on my little one, so I started to make my own soap!
2) What is your favorite thing about creating?
I LOVE getting new fragrances and being inspired by them! The more off-beat the name, the more I am into the fragrance! (Example: Apples and Mint Jelly Soap, Snow Cone Lip Balm, and Pipe Smoke Salt Soap! The names are unusual, but they make the best products!) I also love the zen-like feeling I get while stirring the soap batter… It is very calming and soothing.
3) Where do you find your inspiration?
I get inspired by the fragrances themselves! I can usually smell a fragrance and immediately see a bar of soap forming in my head!
4) Tell us about what you sell.
I sell handmade cold process soap, hot process soap, lip balm, bath bombs, wax tarts, and crochet bath accessories.
5) How did your shop get it’s name?
My shop’s name is SecondSpringSoaps, and “Second spring” actually comes from a quote by French philosopher Albert Camus. The quote reads: “Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.”
6) Do you have any advice for other sellers?
The harder you work, the more results you will see! Also, make sure that you have a passion for your craft… people will notice!
7) How do you balance your Etsy shop, your children, and your everyday schedule?
It’s hard, but it is doable. I am also in college, so I have to balance that as well, but I do most of my Etsy work during naptime or late at night. I also have to make soap late at night, because I do not want my son around active lye. My husband is a great partner, and he always helps out around the house and with our son whenever needed.
That concludes our featured seller for this Friday! Make sure to Follow OwnSomethingAwesome on Facebook or Twitter to stay up-to-date and see when there is a new blog post! And feel free to leave a comment on the shops!
